Why Some Watermelons are Completely HOLLOW Inside?π#watermelon #animation

There’s nothing more disappointing than cutting into a beautiful watermelon only to find a hollow, mealy mess inside. What causes this tragic fruit failure? The answer is a ruthless act of survival by the plant itself! π
If a watermelon is left on the vine for too long after it’s fully ripe, the plant will begin a process of nutrient resorption. To support new growth (like younger melons), the vine will start to draw water and sugars back out of the ripe watermelon. This drains the flesh from the inside out, causing the cells to separate and creating a hollow, less sweet interior.
This is why the “thump test” is so important! A perfectly ripe watermelon should have a deep, hollow sound, like a drum. An overripe, hollow melon will have a dull, muffled thud. Don’t let a plant trick you into buying its leftovers!
