The Banana Tree That Only Lives to Fruit ONCE #banana #animation

It seems brutal and wasteful, but after a banana plant produces its single bunch of fruit, farmers cut the entire thing down. But why destroy a perfectly good “tree”? The secret is that a banana “tree” isn’t a tree at all! 🍌

This video reveals the mind-blowing truth about one of the world’s most popular fruits. The banana plant is actually the world’s largest herbaceous flowering plant (a giant herb!). Its “trunk” is a pseudostem made of tightly rolled leaves. Each main stem grows, produces only one bunch of bananas in its lifetime, and then dies.

Cutting down the old stem is essential. It allows the plant to direct all its energy into a new “sucker” or “pup” growing from the underground rhizome, which will become the next plant and produce the next harvest. It’s a cycle of dea7h and rebirth that gives us a constant supply of this delicious fruit!
