Spring Figs vs. Autumn Figs: Why You Can’t Have Both? #figtree #animation

It seems cruel, but picking the very first fruits off your young fig tree is one of the most important secrets to a massive harvest. This video hilariously explains the battle between Spring Figs (also called “Breba figs”) and Autumn Figs (the “Main Crop”).
πΏ The Science Explained:
Energy Diversion: Figs grow fruit on new branches (“one leaf, one fruit”). In the spring, the tree’s main job is to use its energy to grow long, strong new branches for the real harvest later in the year.
The “Spring Fruit” Problem: The early “spring fruits” (Breba crop) grow on last year’s old wood. They act as “energy vampires,” sucking away resources that the tree needs to grow new branches.
The Result: If you let the spring fruits grow, the tree stays short and stunted. It won’t produce enough new branches, meaning you get a tiny main harvest (or none at all).
The Solution: By sacrificing the few early figs, you force the plant to invest all its energy into growing new branches, leading to far more fruit in the autumn.
As the farmer says, “Keeping one spring fruit means you lose four autumn fruits!”
