Quantum Chemistry 4.3 – Postulates of Quantum Mechanics 3: Measurement
41.5K views on YouTube
Short lecture on postulate 3 of quantum mechanics.
A postulate is a statement that is not proven, but assumed to be true and judged on the validity of its conclusions. Postulate 3 of quantum mechanics states that any measurement of an observable (physical property) will only yield eigenvalues of the operator representing that property as a result. All eigenvalues of these operators must be real numbers. If the wavefunction is an eigenfunction of the operator, the experiment can only yield one value as a result.
