How to make Solomun’s ‘Home’ with DRC

For most of us, social distancing has been a part of our lives for almost a year, with various local rules and restrictions we must follow, as part of the global campaign against covid. As the world adapts to meet these tough challenges, one particularly hard-hit area is nightclubs and live music venues, where there is simply no practical way for these businesses to operate.

While ‘cloud raves’ and Twitch streaming have pumped a familiar soundtrack into our homes, the DJ booths and dancefloors of our usual club venues have fallen eerily silent in a vacant state of darkness.

Released towards the end of 2020, ‘Home’ by Bosnian-German DJ and producer Solomun sheds some much needed light into these night time places, that we look forward to the day we can once again feel at home inside.

‘Home’ is a nostalgic reminder of the magical experience of hearing music the way it is intended to be heard, and a look at the stark contrast of empty music halls, clubs and venues, which would normally be packed full of hedonistic ravers. The accompanying music video directed by Henrik Alm shows us exactly this, presenting an array of hauntingly empty arenas. Solomun describes his motivation:

“In every place, music can find a home. But in order to really experience music, you have to actually go to the rooms that were especially designed for it. In those sacred rooms, music can actually get to people.”
