In this video, we look at electrophilic addition of a halogen to alkenes. First we look at how halogen molecules are different to hydrogen halides in terms of bond polarity. We explore how this affects the reaction mechanism for electrophilic addition. We then look at why adding a halogen to an asymmetric alkene results in only one product. We finish by looking at the bromine water test for unsaturated molecules.
This video is aimed at the UK A Level Chemistry specifications. Students studying International A Level Chemistry will need to check their specification.
