In quantum mechanics, stationary states refer to quantum states with all observables independent of time, typically associated with definite energy levels. These energy levels are discrete values that a quantum system can occupy. Superposition is the principle that a quantum system can exist in multiple states simultaneously, described by a linear combination of those states. When a measurement is made, the system’s wavefunction collapses to a single eigenstate corresponding to the measured value, resolving the superposition into a definite state. This collapse is what gives rise to the observed physical properties of the system, including its energy level.
