In this week’s episode, we discuss why you should stop using iso 100 for landscape photography. Now depending on who you ask you’ll probably receive a slightly different answer as to when or if you should ever raise your ISO, but I consistently encounter two common situations that always result in a need to increase my ISO. And I feel that when you’re first getting started in landscape photography that you quickly become conditioned to believe that the only way to create a clean image is by using ISO 100 – which is simply just not the case.

In this video, I’ll share with you an experiment that you can easily perform at home that will undoubtedly help you feel more comfortable with what an acceptable ISO level is for your particular camera. And understanding how far you can push your camera from an ISO perspective will certainly help you navigate the two common landscape photography situations that I mentioned earlier. I used to be very leery to ever move my ISO above 100 and only did so as a method of last resort as I was afraid I would ruin the overall image quality of my photograph, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

So the next time you encounter one of these situations that always results in the need to increase your ISO, I hope the information in this video will enable you to feel more comfortable increasing your ISO in order to create the landscape photo you’re envisioning. If you enjoyed this video, please consider giving it a thumbs up and let me know what you think in the comments below – I guarantee I’ll get back to ya. Thanks for watching everyone! -Mark D.
