In this video, we simulate a plug flow reactor (PFR) in DWSIM for the gas-phase synthesis of ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen.
🔹 Problem Description
The reaction
N2+3H2→2NH3
is carried out in an isothermal plug flow reactor, with thermodynamic properties evaluated using the Peng–Robinson equation of state.
Feed conditions:
Mass flow rate: 3600 kg/h
Temperature: 425 °C
Pressure: 200 bar
Mole fractions: N₂ = 0.5, H₂ = 0.5
Reactor specifications:
Reactor type: Plug Flow Reactor
Volume: 1 m³
Length: 1.5 m
Reaction kinetics:
Rate constant: k = 0.004
