DWSIM Splitter Simulation Explained | Ethanol Water Example | Chemical Engineering
287 views on YouTube
Hello everyone, welcome to Chemical Engineering Education
In this video, we simulate a Splitter unit operation in DWSIM using an Ethanol Water mixture under realistic process conditions
👉 Inlet stream details
Temperature: 70 degree C
Pressure: 1.5 bar
Flow rate: 200 kg per hour
Composition: 40 percent Ethanol and 60 percent Water
👉 Property package used: NRTL (suitable for polar mixtures)
👉 Split operation
Stream 1: 60 percent flow (120 kg per hour)
Stream 2: 40 percent flow (80 kg per hour)
📌 Key Concept
A splitter does NOT change composition — both outlet streams have the same composition as the inlet
🎯 What you will learn
How to use DWSIM for process simulation
Splitter unit operation in chemical engineering
Material balance validation
Property package selection (NRTL)
💡 Perfect for Chemical Engineering students, GATE aspirants, and beginners in process simulation
