Hi, I’m Fame Ketover of Lenguin.com and this is Mandarin Chinese. Now it’s your turn to say the things you learned in the last lesson. Plus you’ll learn the Chinese characters.
Alright, let’s do this.
Listen to Miss Hu ask Mr. King which country he’s from in this live exchange.
○ 你是哪国人？
○ 我是美国人。

Now try answering Miss Hu as she asks Mr. King various questions concerning nationality. If she asks a yes/no question, start your answer with “Shì” or “Bú shi”. If she asks “what is so and so’s nationality?”, answer with a simple statement.
The answer “no” wouldn’t make sense.
你是美国人吗？
是，我是美国人。

你是哪国人？
我是美国人。

马先生是哪国人？
他是中国人。

你是中国人吗？
不是，我不是中国人。

马先生是美国人吗？
不是，他不是美国人。

我是美国人吗？
不是，你不是美国人。
