A neutrino is a subatomic particle that is very similar to an electron, but has no electrical charge and a very small mass, which might even be zero. Neutrinos are one of the most abundant particles in the universe. Because they have very little interaction with matter, however, they are incredibly difficult to detect. They don’t interact via strong interaction or electromagnetic interaction. The only interact via weak interaction.
In this video, I discuss the interesting history of the Neutrino hypothesis of Beta decay, by Wolgang Pauli and Enrico Fermi. I talk about the three different types of neutrinos – electron-neutrino, muon-neutrino, tau-neutrino. I also talk about the handedness of neutrinos, i.e the right-handedness of anti-neutrinos and the left-handedness of neutrinos, and how this violates the parity symmetry.
