Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) is a water soluble vitamin (essential molecule) that works as a cofactor for metabolism. Pyruvate dehydrogenase, alpha ketoacid dehydrogenase as well as transketolase enzymes depend on thiamine as a cofactor.
