Statics: Lesson 58 – Internal Forces M, N, V on a Frame Problem
Welcome back to engineering mechanics statics! In Lesson 58, we are mastering how to find internal forces (M, N, V) inside a complex frame problem. This advanced tutorial brings together structural analysis, rigid body equilibrium, and mechanics of materials to show you exactly how connected frames, cables, and pulleys interact under external loads.
We will start step-by-step by finding the partial global equilibrium to solve for key support reactions ($B_x, A_x$). Then, we will take the frame apart to isolate the lower beam and solve for the remaining pin forces using a clever moment equation. Finally, we will make a section cut right at Point F and apply the official sign convention rules for internal forces to calculate the Normal/Axial force, Shear force, and Bending moment. You will learn how to properly interpret negative force values (compression vs. tension) to ensure your calculations are perfectly accurate. This class is an absolute must-watch for your civil engineering tutorials, strength of materials prep, and FE Exam statics review!
