Sample Rate is a difficult thing to talk about because you find that folks don’t often clarify what they are referring to when they talk about it. Do they mean the final audio file or the sample rate the of the DAW session? In this video I make the case that if an audio file’s final sample rate is 44.1, it will sound the same as all sample rates above that number. But I also make the case that increasing the sample rate during the DAW session lowers aliasing distortion and higher sample rates should be used to process audio in studio environments. Moreover, wherever oversampling is available, it should be used to periodically raise rates even higher where it really counts without taxing the computer as much as running the entire session at super high rates.
