How to Use Foreground Interest in Your Photography Compositions

Adding something of interest in the foreground of a photo can help draw the eye through the image to the main subject. It can also add a sense of depth. This is a popular technique with landscape photographers but it can be used in many other photography genres.

When composing your photos don’t only look at your subject and what’s behind them. You need to also consider what is in front of them and how you might use this as part of your composition. Be careful though that what you choose as foreground interest does not steal attention from your main subject.
