Why no peat?
Extracting peat for use in gardens is an environmental disaster. Globally, peat bogs store 3 times as much carbon as forests. As the bogs are dug out for peat used in potting compost bags, they release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Peatlands are also important wildlife habitats that are home to a wealth of plants, birds, and insects. If you’re buying bagged compost or plants, make sure you choose peat-free, and if it’s not available, ask why not.

The course provides support and guidance to help you go peat-free. It includes:

• An examination of the contents of peat-free potting compost bags.
• Help to adjust to new peat-free mixes, with advice on watering and feeding.
