13.3K views on YouTube

This week we’re going to show you how to create Light Rays or beams of light in your videos. If you’ve ever wanted to make rays of sun or moonlight in your videos or photos, this tutorial shows ya how – AND we shot some Canon C200 footage for our test!

So how to make cinematic light rays? Well it all starts with controlled environment. Make sure you don’t have excess ambient light spilling in if you’re trying to create dramatic moonlight. Once you have your lighting environment set, you can use a directional light like a Fresnel light to create a direct beam through your scene. In this cinematography lighting tutorial, the key element is a hazer or haze machine. Haze up your room, so your light ray can shine through the atmosphere.

If you’re looking how to make beams of light in video cinematography, it can really add a dramatic look to your scenes. We hope this cinematic lighting 101 tutorial was helpful.
