Statics: Lesson 53 – Frame Problem with 2 (Two) Force Members

Welcome to Lesson 53 of engineering mechanics statics! In this video, we are moving past trusses to start a brand-new topic: frames and machines. We are tackling a complex, real-world basketball goal problem to show you how to solve frames step by step using my official 3-step analysis recipe.

You will learn how to calculate global equilibrium support reactions for a cantilever pillar first, and then master the art of “blowing the frame apart” into individual Free Body Diagrams (FBD). We will specially focus on identifying and handling 2 (Two) force members without extra math. Using basic pinned connections equations ($\Sigma F_x=0, \Sigma F_y=0, \Sigma M=0$), we will solve for every internal force. Perfect for your structural analysis and FE exam prep!
