Quantum Chemistry 14.5 – Aromatic UV-Vis Spectra

Short lecture on the UV-Vis spectra of aromatic molecules.

The pi orbitals of planar cyclic hydrocarbons can be modeled using the particle in a ring model. This leads to a prediction for the wavelength of the photon at the peak of the UV-Vis absorption spectrum which is qualitatively similar to that from experiment.
