Whenever a spin 1/2 nucleus is adjacent to N other nuclei, it is split into N+1 distinct peaks. Each multiplet (singlet, doublet, triplet, etc.) has peak magnitudes which are defined by binomial coefficients which can be obtained from Pascal’s triangle.
