Next, we examine how the non-oxidative phase adapts to cellular needs: when the demand is high for nucleotide synthesis, the pathway favors production of ribose-5-phosphate, whereas in tissues prioritizing reductive biosynthesis (like adipose or liver), the focus shifts toward maximizing NADPH output.
