How to prime and prep canvases for acrylic and oil paintings! Priming and prepping canvases may be tedious, but they are a fundamental part of my professional painting practice and ensure I’m set up for success, regardless of whether I’m painting in acrylic or oil. In this tutorial, I will walk you through how to batch prepare your canvases for one or multiple paintings, first by choosing your sizes and aspect ratios, then by priming, toning and sanding your canvas using gesso and liquid acrylic paint.
