How To Play Piano For Beginners, Lesson 19 || New Scales And Scale Theory

25.4K views on YouTube

In this tutorial in my How To Piano for Beginners series we’re going to learn four new scales and explore a little bit of the useful music theory than underlies piano scales. It’s very easy to think of scales as tedious exercises that we just use to warm up our fingers at the start of our daily piano practice. And yes, scales do make very good warm-ups. But knowing your scales, and understanding how they work, is useful for far more important reasons than that. Scales underlie all melody, and all harmony, too: they’re the raw material that most (certainly not all, but most) music is made of.

So what I do in the tutorial is explain some of the theory underlying scales, and dig into concepts like intervals, which are important for understanding how scales work.
