How to make the sounds from Jestofunk ‘Can We Live’ with DRC

If you like dance music, then chances are you like dancing too. Whether at home or in the club, let the music take you and enter the void of inherent movement, and as they say “dance like nobody’s watching”. From the head-nodders to the podium princesses, dance is our physical connection to the music of life.

Get ready to shake your dance moves, because we’ve got a funky little number for you today, from the Italian group Jestofunk. From dalla bellissima Italia, Claudio Rispoli AKA DJ MozaArt, Alessandro Staderini AKA DJ Blade and Francesco Farias founded Jestofunk at the beginning of the 90s. Fusing the sounds of funk, soul, jazz, house, and disco, their music is a combination of genres guaranteed to make you gravitate to the dance floor and get your groove on!

Throughout their work, Jestofunk have collaborated with a lot of great vocalists and artists such as Jocelyn Brown, Freddy McGregor, and Cinda Ramseu, and have also toured the world with bands like Massive Attack.

CeCe Rogers is the featured vocalist Jestofunk chose for the track behind today’s DRC Sound Design Tutorial; the group’s 1995 hit ‘Can We Live’, which opens with this impassioned spoken word intro:

“I’d like to dedicate this one to people of color
To all my brothers and sisters out there
To you and your culture
Be proud of what you are
But most of all I want you to respect others”

This leads us into a disco-house style beat with a funky little organ groove and a velvety rich, soulful vocal from Rogers over the top.

Lucas is of course focused on the instrumental side of things, covering the track’s main sounds, by recreating them with our faithful virtual analog emulator, DRC – Polyphonic Synthesizer.
