How to replace the rear sway bar bushings on a second generation Honda Pilot. This is a 2011 all-wheel-drive model, a similar procedure may apply to other models from different generations as well. Worn bushings will cause clunking in the rear end of the vehicle and you may notice an increase in body roll.

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-1/2″ ratchet
-14mm socket
-new bushings
-pry bar
Procedure:
Drive the rear of the vehicle on ramps. I already applied some penetrating oil to the bolts to make the removal easier.
First starting with the driver’s side. I’ll try to provide different angles for the camera footage. Using a 14 mm socket and a ratchet, remove the bolt. They are rusty so if you do find that the bolt is getting tighter as you’re removing it, turn it in the opposite direction to help break any of that rust-free so you don’t break the bolt. The corrections are directly behind the mufflers on the subframe.
For the top bolt, I did find it was best to use a half-inch drive ratchet with a 14 mm socket. Using the 3 H Dr. doesn’t seem to have enough reach and a deep socket seems to be too long for the area.
Once the bolts are out, then remove the bracket.
After that, you can then remove the rubber bushing, which has a slit on the dome side, spread this, and then pull it off the bar.
Moving onto the opposite side, again is the same process. Remove the 214 mm bolts along with the metal retaining bracket.
Then finally remove the rubber bushing.
Compare the old and new bushings to ensure they are the same. You will notice the new bushings tend to have a softer touch however they are still quite rigid.
The flat side goes in towards the center of the vehicle while the regular-shaped side faces towards the wheel.
Install the rubber bushing first, the fly side goes towards the subframe.
Now install the metal bracket.
I did find it was easiest to install the top bolt first and then finish up with the bottom bolt. Try to get a few turns on the bolt and then you can finish up the ratchet.
Tighten up both the bolts.
Do the same for the opposite side. I was having issues trying to get the top bolt started so I ended up removing the wheel to reinstall the bolts. This will provide a lot more room and you can even use a pry bar for assistance.
Once the bolts are started, then you can finish up using a ratchet and socket to tighten.
