Finding Absolute (Global) Extreme Values over Closed Intervals (Calculus Problems and Solutions)
1K views on YouTube
The Extreme Value Theorem says that if f(x) is continuous on the closed and bounded interval [a,b], then global extreme values will exist. To find them, find the critical points and compare values of the function at the critical points in [a,b] and endpoints of [a,b]. The First Derivative Test classifies a critical point of a function based on the behavior of the first derivative of the function near the critical point, while the Second Derivative Test does so based on the behavior of the second derivative of the function near the critical point.
