Acrylic paint drying too fast is one of the most frustrating parts of working with this medium, especially when you are colour mixing, blending, or trying to work in thin layers. If you’ve ever struggled with keeping acrylic paint wet, or have ever squeezed out paint only to find it drying on your palette before you can even get it onto the canvas, you are not alone. In this video, I break down exactly why acrylic paint dries so quickly and share three practical, artist tested ways to keep acrylic paint wet longer. We will cover how your environment affects drying time, when and how to use acrylic retarders and slow drying mediums without overdoing it, and my favourite long term solution for keeping paint workable all day using a wet palette. These are the same strategies I have relied on for over a decade to paint without rushing and without constantly remixing dried colours. This video was filmed in 4K, so you can enjoy at the highest resolution!
