Chad provides a thorough introduction to Nuclear Chemistry in this lesson. Several nuclear particles are introduced along with their nuclear symbols, atomic numbers, and mass numbers including alpha particles, beta particles, positrons, and gamma rays. Also included is a brief discussion of their relative ‘penetrating powers.’ A review of how to determine the number of protons and neutrons in a nucleus from a nuclear symbol is then provided followed by a lesson showing how to balance nuclear reactions by balancing the atomic number and mass number and then how to predict the identify of a missing particle or nuclide.
