Whether you’re on your way to karaoke or about to step onto the stage, you need a solid vocal warmup to make sure your voice is ready to go. Luckily, vocal warmups for singing don’t have to be time-consuming or complicated. You can even do them in the car or a dressing room! Here’s a simple routine to get you started:

Breath Activation
Start with breath activation exercises like a pulsing hiss or saying “HO.” These help activate your diaphragm and get your breath support working properly. Focus on keeping a steady, controlled breath—this is the foundation of good singing!

Speaking on Pitch
Next, try speaking on pitch. Pick a sentence and speak it in a melodic tone. This warms up your vocal cords and helps with pitch accuracy without adding too much strain.

SOVT Exercises
Now, stretch your voice throughout its range with some SOVT (semi-occluded vocal tract) exercises. These are great for warming up gently. Try a hum, NG, lip trill, or straw singing to keep things easy on your voice.

High Notes: Time for ‘Whee!’
To open up those high notes, try a short, playful ‘whee’ sound. It helps loosen things up without overexerting your voice.

Mix Voice on ‘One’
Next, let’s warm up your mid-range with a mix voice exercise. Sing the word “ONE” with a relaxed breath beforehand. This helps smooth out transitions between vocal registers.

Agility: Vowels of Choice
Finally, get your voice moving faster with agility exercises. Pick a vowel like EE or OO, as they’re the gentlest, and move quickly through scales or arpeggios.

These quick vocal warmup exercises will have you sounding your best in no time, no matter where you are!
