Chad provides a thorough lesson on the Kinetics of Nuclear Decay. The half-life of a radioactive nuclide is defined and its relationship to the rate constant is presented. As radioactive decay follows first order kinetics and the 1st order integrated rate law is also presented with an example problem worked out. But most problems can at least be approximated without having to use the 1st order integrated rate law and examples of this are also provided. Finally, radiometric dating, and more specifically radiocarbon dating is covered and an example worked out.
